1985 – 14.5×19.5 in. – Pastel on tan paper
As I looked for a place to paint, I was intrigued by the combination of the clouds with the shapes of melting snow – almost fallen clouds. I’ve used that pairing in other works, but in this situation, with the memorial to those who died in previous wars, I liked the extension of the pairing of the earthly and heavenly shapes – in the “Dome of Heaven” (which is from a line of Robert Frost’s “Birches”)
